Sital Young­sters were crowned the new cham­pi­ons of the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion 30-Over League on Sun­day (Feb­ru­ary 9) in their de­but sea­son.

The debu­tants, led by Zaara Bhi­ki and Shan­matie Nowrang, who picked up three wick­ets each, claimed the ti­tle af­ter de­feat­ing clos­est chal­lengers Vic­to­ria Crick­et Club (CC) in their fi­nal match of the league, host­ed by T&T Women’s Crick­et As­so­ci­a­tion’s (TTWCA), at the Young­sters Recre­ation Ground, Pan­cham Street in Fe­lic­i­ty.

Vic­to­ria CC bat­ted first and post­ed a mea­gre score of 68 all out in 14.2 overs. Shan­ta Roopchan and Abi­gail Boodoo tried to put up runs on the board but came up way short of a cred­i­ble tar­get. Roopchan ran out of part­ners and fin­ished un­beat­en on 15 while Boodoo was sec­ond-best with 10.

Bhi­ki and Nowrang ran through Vic­to­ria CC’s line-up. The for­mer was eco­nom­i­cal as well claim­ing 3-5, while her bowl­ing part­ner sealed 3-14. Saman­tha Ram­goolam was al­so good at the bowl­ing crease with 2-16.

In re­ply, the Young­sters reached the win­ning tar­get of 69-3 in just 5.5 overs with Crys­tal Hanslal lead­ing the bat­ting with 34 not out and Stechelle Hayling Jor­dan added 20.

Amala Dur­gadeen (1-1) and Chelsey Sookhram (1-12) picked up a wick­et each in a los­ing ef­fort for Vic­to­ria CC, who will await the win­ner of the resched­uled match be­tween Crick­et Lovers and Bren­da Solozano Crick­et Acad­e­my (BSCA) this Sun­day at Las Lo­mas Recre­ation Ground. Crick­et Lovers have a chance to take sec­ond with a vic­to­ry against BSCA.

Crick­et Lovers moved with­in a chance for the run­ner-up prize af­ter de­feat­ing North Zone by sev­en wick­ets thanks for a bril­liant 4-22 from Amy Hold­er and an im­pres­sive 3-14 from Pauline Dufeal.

In the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion, the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Women’s Crick­et Club (UWI WCC) com­plet­ed an­oth­er win in the TTWCA’s 50-Over League to re­main atop the sev­en-team ta­ble af­ter five rounds with 40 points—four wins and a loss.

Play­ing at UWI South Field in St Au­gus­tine, UWI WCC, boost­ed by bowler San­damali Dolawat­ta, beat AC Women by nine wick­ets.

Dolawat­ta ran through the AC Women bat­ting line-up, claim­ing 6-8 as AC Women reached 60-9 in their al­lot­ted 43 overs.

UWI WCC re­spond­ed with 61-1 in 5.5 overs. Lee Ann Kir­by helped the Pre­mier­ship leader cruised to the win­ning tar­get, con­tribut­ing 41 not out.

De­fend­ing cham­pi­on Pow­er­gen Women, who is in sec­ond place with 32 points from four match­es —three wins and a loss—was on a bye.
