Top officials from the T&T Police Service (TTPS) continue to remain mum regarding the investigation into police commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher.
Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin would only assure the public that the investigators were doing their due diligence in the ongoing investigation.
“This matter with the commissioner of police is at a very sensitive stage and it is actively being investigated,” the acting top cop said during a media briefing at the Police Administration Building, Port-of-Spain.
“We are at the point where the matter is before the DPP and we await, at this time, the advice of the DPP.”
He further assured, “The TTPS continues to deal with this matter in a very professional manner and to ensure the highest level of integrity in the way that we conduct this investigation.”
Harewood-Christopher and former director of the Strategic Services Agency (SSA), Major Roger Best, have both been questioned by investigators in the ongoing investigation into the acquisition of two sniper rifles for the SSA.
Although the two were initially detained and arrested in the last week of January and taken into custody, they were both released on February 1 without any charges being laid.
The investigation is being led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin.
