Nakeyse Moore led Chaguanas North Secondary to a hard-fought 67-63 victory over St Benedict’s College in the South/Central Zone of the T&T Schools Basketball Association’s (TTSBA) League.
Playing at the St Benedict’s College court on Thursday, the host team was unable to make use of home advantage as Moore notched a match-high 34 points to help his team open the season with a win in the Boys’ Under-17 Division.
Chaguanas North’s U-15 team also made a winning start to its season two days earlier, defeating the host team San Fernando East, 47-37. Leading the Chaguanas-based team to victory was Jerod Henry with 18 points.
Later, St Benedict’s College’s U-15 unit had a way better start than its senior team, winning its season-opener 42-4 win over Fyzabad Secondary at home.
In the East Zone, Holy Cross and Hillview Colleges also got off to dominant starts in the U-15 Division, defeating Five Rivers and El Dorado West, respectively.
N’Kobie Ince topscored with 21 points to lift Holy Cross to a comfortable 74-12 victory over Five Rivers in the second match of a double-header at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena (MISA) on Friday. Earlier, J Fontanelle produced 33 to ease Hillview past El Dorado West, 60-20.
Over in the North Zone, William Francis, who won the opening day boys’ skills challenge, piloted Fatima College to victories in two divisions on Thursday and then on Saturday.
In Group 2 of the boys’ U-17 Division at Fatima College court on Thursday, Francis scored 17 to help his team beat East Mucurapo, 46-17 in the opening match of the day. Later, Queen’s Royal College (QRC) got the better of St Francis College, 40-34.
Francis returned to the court in Fatima’s match against Trinity Moka in the U-20 Division on Saturday and topscored with 18 to lead the host team to a one-sided 77-7 win in the second match.
