KINGSTON, Jamaica – A late goal by Sue-Lae McCalla saw Jamaica to a narrow 1-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in their first international football friendly match on Thursday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
The 32-year-old centre back picked the perfect time to score his maiden international goal, sending a right-footed shot past substitute goalkeeper Aaron Enill in the 83rd minute.
McCalla’s match winning goal came as the Soca Warriors tried to clear their lines from a set-piece and the defender was quickest to a flick-on from a long ball to beat Enill who came on for Jabari St Hillaire in the second half.
The Reggae Boyz almost doubled their lead three minutes later, but Daniel Green’s powerfully hit free kick crashed into the cross bar with Enill beaten.
It was T&T’s head coach Dwight Yorke’s second loss in as many matches since being appointed in November, after losing 3-1 to Saudi Arabia back in December.
The second friendly against the Jamaicans will take place at the Anthony Spaulding Complex in Kingston on Sunday.
