GEORGETOWN – The upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup encounter between the Guyana Jaguars and Guatemala has been relocated to the Wildey AstroTurf in Barbados.
The match was expected to be played in Guyana, but the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) issued a release stating that it will now be played in Barbados on March 21 at 9 p.m.
The GGF said the move was made following discussions with CONCACAF, citing logistical challenges and playing conditions.
GFF president, Wayne Forde, said while the move was in line with competition regulations, they were committed to ensuring future home games are played in Guyana.
The Golden Jaguars face a tough test against a strong Guatemalan side that is ranked ninth in CONCACAF.
Guyana, currently ranked 19th, will be hoping to improve its recent form against Guatemala, which has won the last two encounters: a 3-1 victory in the Nations League and a 4-0 win in the 2021 Gold Cup preliminaries.
