Akeil Coop­er played a cap­tain’s knock and scored an un­beat­en 99 to lead a spir­it­ed Pow­er­gen Sports to a de­cent first in­nings to­tal of 272 against a Queen’s Park team with world-class off-spin­ner Sunil Nar­ine in the at­tack in Round Two of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Crick­et Board Pre­mier Di­vi­sion League com­pe­ti­tion on Sat­ur­day.

Pow­er­gen is miss­ing bats­men Cephas Coop­er and Ja­son Mo­hammed, both on Red Force du­ty, while Queen’s Park was with­out al­most the en­tire first-choice bowl­ing at­tack as An­der­son Phillip, Jay­den Seales, Yan­nic Cari­ah, Khary Pierre, and Bryan Charles were all in­volved in the Red Force’s huge win against Wind­ward Is­lands Vol­ca­noes on Fri­day at Arnos Vale, St Vin­cent, in the Crick­et West In­dies First-Class Cham­pi­onships.

Videsh Sookhai start­ed things off at the top of the or­der with 66. Queen’s Park chipped away at the Pow­er­gen’s bat­ting with the wick­ets of Daniel Wil­iams (0), Mbe­ki Joseph (16), and Navin Be­di­asee (0), all falling to fast bowler Dex­ter Sween, who fin­ished with three for 64.

Ter­rance Hinds, back in Queen’s Park uni­form af­ter a year at cham­pi­ons Cen­tral Sports, bowled Ewart Nichol­son, who made 17, and Nar­ine re­moved the dan­ger­ous De­journ Charles for nine.

Sookhai’s re­sis­tance end­ed when last year’s cap­tain, Isa­iah Ra­jah, got help from this sea­son’s cap­tain, Dar­ren Bra­vo, who caught him. Ra­jah got three wick­ets.

Coop­er, bat­ting at num­ber sev­en, then bat­ted for 200 min­utes and faced 152 balls in his un­beat­en 99 as he lost part­ners at the back end of the in­nings.

Nicholas Ali scored 38 to lend sup­port to his skip­per, but in the end, Pow­er­gen scored 272 all out.

Queen’s Park looked com­fort­able dur­ing their turn at the crease, clos­ing on 68 with­out loss at stumps with Jor­dan Warn­er un­beat­en on 48.
