Central Sports, the Defending champions, are seeking their third straight win in the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) Premier League Division One when they travel to Preysal today as Round Three action gets underway Saturday (February 15) morning.
The Felicity-based team registered wins in the two-day competition against Prisons Sports and Victoria in the first two matches and sits top of the table with 49 points, 12 points clear of Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) in second place with 37 points.
Preysal are coming off two draws, against Powergen and last week versus Yorkshire. The Inshan Ali Park-based club is hoping for a good showing against last season's double winners and can take encouragement from Aaron Bankay’s knock of 66 in last week’s draw against Yorkshire. Central Sports, however, welcomed the return to form by Kamil Pooran, who scored 45.
Queen’s Park will attempt to keep pace with Central Sports as they play a difficult Clarke Road team. The Parkites scored an impressive win against Merryboys two weeks ago but dropped points when they hosted Powergen in a draw, also last week. It could have been worse for the Tragerete Road team as it was 175 for nine in its only innings, responding to Powergen’s 272 first innings score.
Terrence Hinds rescued QPCC with 81 not out that pushed them to 270 all out, missing first innings points by three runs. That resulted in Queen’s Park dropping from first in the standings to second, allowing Central Sports to go top.
Bess Motors Marchin Patriots are currently third on 30 points and face a Victoria team now coming off a loss against Central Sports. The Central team will start as favourites as they have in their rank West Indies opener Evin Lewis, who backed up his double ton against Yorkshire two weeks ago with 68 against Clarke Road last week.
Patriots can close the gap on the leaders with a commanding win against a team on just 12 points and ninth on the ten-team table.
First ball is at 9.30 am.
