Days after a man was denied bail on sexual assault charges against a ten-year-old girl, his brother appeared in court on similar charges against the child.
Shaffick Mohammed, 32, of La Fortune Road, Woodland appeared before Master Delicia Bethelmy on Wednesday charged with sexual penetration of a minor and intentionally exposing a child to pornography.
He was also jointly charged with a woman for obstruction of justice.
The offences were allegedly committed between October and November 2024.
Objecting to bail, prosecutor Anthony Jacob cited the nature and seriousness of the offences and that he had pending matters, including possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mohammed was denied bail while the woman was granted $80,000 bail with surety or in the alternative $8,000 cash bail.
The matter next comes up on October 9 for a sufficiency hearing.
Mohammed's brother Raffie Mohammed, 40, appeared in court on February 12 charged with seven counts of sexual offences against the girl, including sexual penetration, sexual touching and sexual grooming of a minor.
He will remain in State custody until a sufficiency hearing on August 19.
The brothers were charged by Cpl Huggins.
