The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising that operations at the Point Fortin Desalination Plant facility were cut back at 7:30 a.m. today due to high levels of algae bloom in the intake area of the plant.
This information was communicated to WASA by Seven Seas Water (SSW), owner/operator of the Point Fortin Desalination Plant.
At present, water delivery has been reduced to 4.38 million gallons per day, down from the usual 5.5 million gallons per day.
According to WASA, due to the reduced output, customers in the following areas may experience disruptions or low water pressure:
"Point Fortin proper, parts of Techier, Vance River, Parrylands, Cochrane, Mahaica, Lot 10, Cochrane, Savannah, Harriman Park, Clifton Hill, Reservoir Hill, Merrimac, Vessigny, TGU, La Brea (up to the Pitch Lake)."
The SSW has assured WASA that every effort is being made to return the facility to full production at the earliest. They will continue to liaise with the company and inform customers when operations have normalized at the Plant.
