A Caroni businessman, who is also a licensed gun owner, was able to scare off a group of six bandits who tried to break into his home early on Wednesday morning.
Police said the businessman’s wife was asleep at their Kelly Village home around 3 am when she heard a loud noise.
Looking out the window, she saw six masked men trying to cut a padlock on the gate to get into the house.
The woman called for help and her husband took his licensed pistol and opened fire on the bandits prompting them to run off.
Officers from the Caroni Police Station were called in and found a bolt cutter and crowbar which were dropped on the ground, believed to have been used by the bandits to try and enter the home.
On Tuesday, a family of five was also robbed at their Kelly Village, Caroni home. During the robbery, a 17-year-old girl and her 41-year-old father were pistol-whipped by one of the bandits.
The attackers stole two cellphones and the keys to a car parked outside the family’s home, however, the bandits eventually ran off when they realised there was no battery in the vehicle.
