Bandits who robbed the home of a Santa Cruz man on Monday while he was at work, made off with $50,000 in cash, along with several pieces of gold jewellery and two pairs of sneakers.
Police said the 42-year-old of Cutucupano Road, Santa Cruz said he secured the house and left for work around 8.30 am.
When he returned around 5 pm, the victim told officers he found his bedroom ransacked and the lock on the walk-in closet, broken.
Upon checking, he found $50,000 in cash which was in a bag in a drawer of the walk-in closet, missing.
Further checks revealed three gold chains valued at $10,000; one gold bera worth $5,000; one pair of Nike sneakers for $300; and one pair of Hush Puppies sneakers valued at $300, all missing.
Police suspect the bandits were able to access the house, which is currently under renovation, by removing the tarpaulin on the southern side.
