Ban­dits who robbed the home of a San­ta Cruz man on Mon­day while he was at work, made off with $50,000 in cash, along with sev­er­al pieces of gold jew­ellery and two pairs of sneak­ers.

Po­lice said the 42-year-old of Cu­tu­cu­pano Road, San­ta Cruz said he se­cured the house and left for work around 8.30 am.

When he re­turned around 5 pm, the vic­tim told of­fi­cers he found his bed­room ran­sacked and the lock on the walk-in clos­et, bro­ken.

Up­on check­ing, he found $50,000 in cash which was in a bag in a draw­er of the walk-in clos­et, miss­ing.

Fur­ther checks re­vealed three gold chains val­ued at $10,000; one gold be­ra worth $5,000; one pair of Nike sneak­ers for $300; and one pair of Hush Pup­pies sneak­ers val­ued at $300, all miss­ing.

Po­lice sus­pect the ban­dits were able to ac­cess the house, which is cur­rent­ly un­der ren­o­va­tion, by re­mov­ing the tar­pau­lin on the south­ern side.
