The Ministry of Education has announced that seven students from Trinidad and Tobago have been recognized among the top regional awardees for the 2024 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, as announced yesterday by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
In a media release, the Ministry said these students, along with other high achievers from across the Caribbean, will be formally celebrated at an awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the National Cultural Centre in Castries, St. Lucia.
The students excelling in CAPE will receive Top Regional Awards in their respective categories. They are:
● Alexis Aqui, St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando - Most Outstanding in Environmental Science;
● Khadine Rambert, Holy Faith Convent, Penal - Outstanding in Information & Communication Technology;
● Charlotte Hadeed, St. Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain - Most Outstanding in Business Studies, sponsored by ACCA.
At the CSEC level, four Trinidad and Tobago students have earned Top Regional Awards for 2024. They are:
● Nataliah Castillo, St. Joseph’s Convent, St. Joseph - Best Short Story;
● Abigail Ramdhanie, Bishop Anstey High School - Most Outstanding in Visual Arts 2D;
● Rizwana Abdool, A.S.J.A. Girls' College, San Fernando - Most Outstanding in Visual Arts 3D;
● Rishav Persad, Naparima College - Most Outstanding in Principles of Accounts, sponsored by ACCA.
Additionally, two students from Trinidad and Tobago will receive CXC Special Awards following the 2024 CAPE and CSEC examinations:
● Nicholas Abreu, Fatima College - Eric Williams Foundation Award for CAPE History;
● Zaria Ifill, St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando - Most Outstanding in CSEC Geography (Prof. Wilma Bailey Award).
The ministry said a significant number of students from Trinidad and Tobago also have been named on CXC’s Regional Merit List for their stellar performances in the June 2024 CAPE and CSEC examinations.
Notably, Trinidad and Tobago students ranked first in 19 CAPE subjects, with 194 students listed on the CAPE Regional Merit List.
The Ministry noted that at the CSEC level, 159 students from Trinidad and Tobago were listed, with top performances in twelve CSEC subjects.
Both Ministers of Education, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly and Lisa Morris-Julian, have extended heartfelt congratulations to the students on their outstanding accomplishments, saying their achievement is “a testament to their hard work, dedication, and resilience.”
“We commend them, along with their families, teachers, and schools, for bringing honour and distinction to Trinidad and Tobago,” the ministers said in the statement.
