A man is in police custody following a robbery at Trotters Restaurant on Maraval Road, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 10.30 pm. Officers received a call reporting a robbery in progress. The suspects reportedly fled on foot towards the Queen’s Park Savannah. Highway Patrol officers swiftly responded and managed to intercept one of the suspects, who was taken into custody at the Port-of-Spain CID.
Police said a group of armed men entered the popular restaurant with eight patrons still inside. They robbed them of cash and valuables. Trotters owner Peter George said the robbery appeared to be an opportunistic crime. George noted that other events had taken place in the area that evening, possibly contributing to the suspects’ choice of location. “It was a crime, and it was an armed crime, but fortunately, no one was hurt,” he stated.
George praised the police for their response.
“The police moved very quickly; they were exceptional,” George said. The suspect remains in police custody, where he will be questioned.–
