The latest update from the Ministry of Health is confirming 64 new positive cases of COVID-19—one of whom is a recently repatriated person—bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 712 patients.
While today’s total new positive cases reported marks a slight drop from the 82 cases yesterday (Thursday April 15th), this latest statistic has resulted in a further increase in the number of active cases nationally, as the figure for yesterday stood at 685 patients.
And in its update for today, Friday 16 April 2021, the Ministry also is reporting no new deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, with the national toll holding at 150 persons.
Overall, the national total for COVID-19 positive cases since tracking began in March 2020, now stands at 8,678 persons.
The Health Ministry also notes in its update:
● 15,425 persons have been vaccinated; up from 13,087 on Thursday.
● 80 persons are still hospitalised for COVID-19; up from 78 patients on Thursday.
● 560 persons are in home self-isolation; up from 520 patients on Thursday.
● 327 persons are in State quarantine facilities; down from 331 patients on Thursday.
● 8 patients are still recovering in step/down facilities; up from 5 patients on Thursday.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO COVID-19 (NOVEL CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE #696
As part of the national drive to safeguard the health of the Trinidad and Tobago population in the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health continues to provide up-to-date information on the country’s status in this regard.
The following is a clinical update as at 4 pm on Friday 16 April 2021. The population is reminded to rely solely on information from official sources, such as the Ministry of Health.

Members of the public are reminded that they must adhere to the ‘New Normal’ recommendations and take the following personal health measures to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19:
● Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when you go out in public
● Keep your distance from others (6 feet)
● Stay home if you are ill
● Clean then sanitise surfaces (e.g. tabletops, door knobs and cell phones)
● Wash your hands often with soap and waters or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser
● Cough into a tissue or into the cook of your elbow
● Avoid touching your face
If you or a loved one develops symptoms of COVID-19, please call the hotline 877-WELL or 800-WELL (9355) for further guidance.
If the person is severely ill, call the 811 (emergency hotline) or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital for help and go in immediately.
