After receiving threats from a former girlfriend, a businessman’s home and three cars were damaged in a fire in La Brea on Thursday.
The 47-year-old man, the owner of an auto straightening and painting garage in Chinese Village, reported that at 4.46 pm on Thursday, his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend called him on his phone. They had been separated since December, but he told police she told him to stop playing games or she would burn down his house.
Police received information that the woman visited his home at 6.30 pm that day but he was not there. She allegedly told one of his employees that she was going to burn down the house. She then went into the living room and left shortly after.
Minutes later, the employee saw fire in the living room and the blaze eventually spread to the garage. Three vehicles which were being repaired in the garage were damaged.
Officers from the Mon Repos and Point Fortin Fire Station, under FSO Noel, responded and extinguished the fire.
The estimated value of the damage to the house and vehicles was not immediately ascertained. Police said the cause of the blaze is also yet to be determined. Officers of the La Brea Police visited the scene and are investigating. - Sascha Wilson
