Former United National Congress (UNC) chairman Jack Warner has pleaded with the party to name more candidates for the upcoming general election.
He did so after endorsing Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, a former minister under the People’s Partnership, as a UNC candidate for Caroni Central. The two met for several hours at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, yesterday.
“This is an election only the UNC can make the UNC lose,” said Warner, who expressed concern that the party was not moving as fast as it should when it comes to naming the election candidates
“I don’t think the candidates are being selected as quickly as they should, so they can meet with their constituents, meet with their financiers. I think they need to get as much time as possible because mind you, the PNM are already in office, they are there, they have the Treasury,” he said.
“The UNC must be given some kind of head start, as I have said before, I don’t know what the strategy is, I am no longer in the bosom of the UNC anymore, I wish I was.”
Warner said he knew had Ramadharsingh was a hard worker.
He was also critical of the current State of Emergency (SoE), which he said is not addressing issues with the criminal element.
Ramadharsingh said Warner’s endorsement was important and he is ready to represent the people.
He said countless persons in Caroni Central have pleaded with him to represent them in Parliament.
