Rachel Vincent and Shunelle Sawh combined to lead Caldrac Achievers to a resounding ten-wicket win over Players Sports Club (SC) in the round one action of T&T Women’s Cricket Association’s (TTWCA) Premiership Division 50-Over League on Sunday.
At Caldrac Ground in California, Players SC batted first and was all out for 108 in 28.3 overs. Nadia Mohammed was the main contributor to runs with 21 while her teammates Sherine Ramkissoon added 17 and Glenesia Dodough posted 13.
Down at the other end, Steffie Soogrim had the best bowling figures of the match with 3-20 and got good support from Maya Harry with 2-16 and Tiffany Asson with 2-20.
The Achievers raced to the winning target thanks to an unbeaten 109-run opening stand between national cricketers Vincent and Sawh.
The pair needed 19.1 overs to reach 109 as Vincent produced an unbeaten half-century, 52 not out off 53 balls.
Sawh, a former West Indies Under-19 player, scored a patient undefeated 38 not out off 67 balls to guide Achievers to their opening win.
At Reform Recreation Ground in Gasparillo, defending champion Powergen also opened a comfortable ten-wicket victory over newcomers AC Women.
AC Women, batting first, were bowled out for 30 in just 10 overs. This was thanks to the bowling of former West Indies and T&T off-spinner Anisa Mohammed with an impressive 3-4, along with two wickets from Natania Lalloo (2-4) and Kimberly John (2-13).
In reply, Powergen just needed 3.4 overs to reach the target of 34/0, led by the batting of Shania Abdool with 22 not out.
In the other match in the division, the University of the West Indies Women’s Cricket Club (UWI WCC) also started with a win against Technocrats.
Led by former West Indies women’s A team captain Reniece Boyce, UWI WCC earned an eight-wicket win after bowling out Technocrats for just 70.
Boyce scored 38 not out to lead the reply as UWI WCC reached the winning target of 71/2 in 11.3 overs.
In the TTCWA’s Championship Division 30-Over League, Victoria Cricket Club defeated Moses Lendore Cricket Academy (MLCA) by ten wickets at the Daren Ganga Recreation Ground in Barrackpore and at the Youngsters Recreation Ground in Felicity, Sital Youngsters beat North Zone by 79 runs.
