Nicholas Romany and Aniqah Bailey secured the top spots in the men’s and women’s 10K events, respectively, in the Guardian Group Shine road race at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday. Meanwhile, Keron Ali and Chennai Moore clinched victories in the highly competitive 5K run/walk, which saw hundreds of runners surging onto the course in the annual event.
The 10K route was a true test of endurance and strategy. Romany dominated the men’s field, finishing with an impressive time of 30 minutes and 28 seconds. He was followed closely by Alex Ekesa, who took the second spot with a time of 31.13. The podium was rounded out by Christopher Mitchell, finishing third in 33.05.
In the women’s 10K, it was a fantastic run for Bailey, who crossed the finish line first in 39.25. The battle for second was won by Alexia John, clocking in at 40.40. April Francis secured third place with a time of 42.32, demonstrating strong performances from the top female distance runners.
The men’s 5K was a swift affair, with Ali leading the pack to take the win in 17 minutes and 34 seconds. Donnell Francis was close behind, securing second place with a time of 18.04. Wayne Lucas completed the top three, finishing in 19.10.
Moore delivered a commanding performance in the women’s 5K, winning comfortably with a time of 19 minutes and 50 seconds. Adrianna Garcia finished strong to take second place in 24.04, just ahead of third-place finisher Tara Riley, who clocked in at 24.18.
