The People’s National Movement (PNM) incumbent candidate for Tobago West, Ayanna Webster-Roy is confident that she will retain the seat in the August 10 general election.
Webster-Roy canvassed the Mason Hall community yesterday, meeting with residents to garner support for her re-election.
Webster-Roy also distributed seedlings during her visits, which were, for the most part, welcomed by except by those who chose to avoid the interaction altogether.
Webster-Roy who will face the People’s Democratic Patriots’ (PDP) Watson Duke but she does not see him as a threat.
“One of the things I would have always done is maintained my presence on the ground like my hashtag says I never left the ground.”
Webster–Roy said she is hoping to give Duke double the licks he got in the 2015 election.
The PDP, meanwhile, continued with its “No Leaking Roof” initiative yesterday, taking the total number of roofs fixed up to 56.
In a live radio broadcast yesterday, Duke lashed out against one of the founding members of the One Tobago Voice, Hochoy Charles who accused him (Duke) of being an agent of the UNC.
He has since called off a meeting that was planned to bring together Tobago parties ina bid to oust the PNM.
He also labelled Tobago Forwards leader Christlyn Moore as “a loser who never won any election.”
The One Tobago Voice—a conglomeration of the Tobago Forwards, Tobago Organisation of the People and Platform for Truth, is yet to name candidates for the upcoming general elections.
All parties have until July 17, Nomination Day, to officially submit the names of candidates for the general election.
