This coun­try’s Min­istry of Health has re­ceived a do­na­tion of a Poly­merase Chain Re­ac­tion (PCR) ma­chine from the Unit­ed States Gov­ern­ment, val­ued at US$52,928.

The PCR ma­chine was hand­ed over this morn­ing by U.S. Chargé d’Af­faires Shante Moore to the Min­istry of Health’s Chief Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Roshan Paras­ram at the Trinidad Pub­lic Health Lab­o­ra­to­ry, Fed­er­a­tion Park, St. Clair.

“This do­na­tion is the re­al­iza­tion of a com­mit­ment we made last year.  It sup­ports Trinidad and To­ba­go’s fight against COVID-19 and strength­ens the re­gion’s re­sponse through the Caribbean Pub­lic Health Agency (CARPHA).  The Biden-Har­ris Ad­min­is­tra­tion rec­og­nizes that COVID-19 is a glob­al chal­lenge that re­quires a glob­al re­sponse,” said Chargé d’Af­faires Moore.

He added: “The Min­istry of Health has been do­ing great work to lead Trinidad and To­ba­go out of the pan­dem­ic.  Trinidad and To­ba­go can con­tin­ue to count on the Unit­ed States to be a key part­ner in our joint ef­forts to pro­tect the health and safe­ty of our cit­i­zens, whether com­bat­ting the pan­dem­ic or work­ing to­geth­er in oth­er ar­eas of mu­tu­al in­ter­est.”

Dur­ing the pan­dem­ic, the Unit­ed States has do­nat­ed ap­prox­i­mate­ly US$2.5 mil­lion worth of equip­ment and oth­er re­sources to the Gov­ern­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go to help in the fight against this dead­ly dis­ease.
