A 57-year-old woman died from COVID-19 in To­ba­go.

She is the is­land's sec­ond per­son to suc­cumb to the virus.

This is ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Di­vi­sion of Health, Well­ness and Fam­i­ly De­vel­op­ment.

The is­land record­ed 59 pos­i­tive cas­es, 14 of which re­main ac­tive.

UP­DATE #42 – CORO­N­AVIRUS DIS­EASE 2019 (COVID-19) IN TO­BA­GO

Wil­son Road, 25th Sep­tem­ber, 2020, 9:00am:

The Di­vi­sion re­grets to in­form the pub­lic that there was a COVID-19 re­lat­ed death yes­ter­day. The per­son is a 57 year old woman with co­mor­bidi­ties.

Coun­cil­lor Tra­cy David­son Ce­les­tine, Sec­re­tary of Health, Well­ness and Fam­i­ly De­vel­op­ment ex­pressed sin­cere con­do­lences to the fam­i­ly and loved ones at this time. She said “This is a most dif­fi­cult time for the fam­i­ly and loved ones of the woman we lost to COVID-19.  Let us sup­port them with our thoughts and prayers at this time. Every per­son we lose to this mon­ster pan­dem­ic is one too many. We must do what we can to pro­tect our loved ones. Mask up, wash your hands, fol­low the guide­lines, it will save lives. We can­not think it won’t be me or you.”

The Sec­re­tary added "The Di­vi­sion has ex­tend­ed sup­port ser­vices to the fam­i­ly. We urge the pub­lic to use our tele­phone coun­selling sup­port ser­vice as we bat­tle this pan­dem­ic. Just reach out if you feel the need to talk to some­one. We are all in this to­geth­er.”

This brings the to­tal num­ber of COVID-19 re­lat­ed deaths in To­ba­go to two (2).

One (1) ad­di­tion­al case test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID-19 in To­ba­go. All es­tab­lished pro­to­cols were im­ple­ment­ed, in­clu­sive of con­tact trac­ing, which is on­go­ing. Two (2) per­sons have al­so been dis­charged.

The clin­i­cal up­date for To­ba­go is as fol­lows:

●     Num­ber of sam­ples sub­mit­ted to the To­ba­go Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (TRHA) and oth­er lo­cal sites to test for COVID-19 = 1132

●     Num­ber of sam­ples that test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID-19 = 59

      o     Num­ber of ac­tive COVID-19 cas­es = 14

           –     Num­ber of pa­tients at the COVID-19 Treat­ment Fa­cil­i­ty = 5

           –     Num­ber of pa­tients at the COVID-19 In­ten­sive Care Unit = 1

           –     Num­ber of pa­tients at the step-down fa­cil­i­ty = 8

      o     Num­ber of per­sons dis­charged = 43 (up­dat­ed fig­ure as of 25/09/2020)

      o     Num­ber of deaths = 2

The pub­lic is re­mind­ed to prac­tice all pre­ven­ta­tive and safe­ty mea­sures, which in­clude:

●     Wash your hands of­ten with soap and wa­ter for at least 20 sec­onds. If soap and wa­ter are not avail­able, use an al­co­hol-based hand san­i­tiz­er.

●     Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when you go out in pub­lic

●     Cov­er your cough or sneeze with your flexed el­bow, or with a tis­sue, then throw the tis­sue in the trash and wash your hands.

●     Avoid close con­tact with any­one with cold or flu-like symp­toms.

●     Stay at home when you are sick and call the hot­line at 800-HEAL (4325).

●     Prac­tice phys­i­cal dis­tanc­ing (6 feet away from per­sons).

●     Clean and dis­in­fect fre­quent­ly touched ob­jects and sur­faces (door han­dles, cell phones etc.)
