Four persons were arrested and three firearms and quantities of ammunition and narcotics seized during exercises conducted across several Divisions yesterday.
In the Central Division, officers conducted an exercise in the Couva and Freeport districts between 11 am and 2 pm, on February, 27 during which one man was arrested for possession of a quantity of cannabis.
The officers then proceeded to the Claxton Bay district, where they conducted a search of an abandoned pig pen. There, they found one revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.
In the North Central Division, officers conducted an exercise between 4 pm and 7 pm, on Thursday. During the exercise, officers went to a bar along the Southern Main Road, Cunupia where they conducted a search, resulting in the owner of the establishment being arrested for possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. The suspect was also found to be operating the bar without a valid liquor license while an illegal gambling machine was found on the premises. The man was arrested in connection with the offences.
In the Northern Division, officers conducted an exercise between 4 am and 10 am, yesterday, during which they proceeded to the Arima home of a 32-year-old suspect. Officers discovered of a quantity of cannabis on the premises. The suspect, who was in the house at the time of the search, was arrested in connection with the find.
The officers then proceeded to an apartment at Emerald Gardens, where they found the following items:
-One Glock 45 pistol,
-41 rounds of assorted ammunition, and,
-A quantity of cannabis with an estimated street value of close to TT$200,000.
Two suspects, a 62-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman who were in the apartment at the time of the search, were arrested in connection with the finds.
In the Southern Division, officers in the St. Mary’s district, proceeded to Saunders Trace where they conducted a search, resulting in the discovery of one shotgun and one 16-gauge cartridge.
Investigations are ongoing into all of the above matters.
