One man has been arrested, and firearms along with a quantity of ammunition were seized during anti-crime exercises in the Port of Spain Division on Thursday night.
According to police reports, a team of officers conducted mobile patrols across the Beetham Gardens, Laventille, Port of Spain, and Belmont areas.
At approximately 10:40 PM on March 6, 2025, while focusing on the Sea Lots area, the officers proceeded to the Production Drive area.
While traveling south along the roadway near the fish market, they observed a male suspect emerging from a track adjacent to the fish market. He looked in the direction of the marked police vehicle, and immediately turned and fled through the track from which he had emerged. The officers gave chase, but the individual managed to evade capture.
The officers continued their search of the area and discovered a Ruger firearm fitted with a magazine containing three rounds of .45 caliber ammunition. The firearm was made safe and seized for further investigation.
In addition, officers conducted a search at a home on Springside Avenue, Eastern Quarry, Laventille, in relation to illegal firearms and ammunition. During the search, a black Taurus pistol containing twelve rounds of 9mm ammunition was found tucked within a couch set. The weapon was seized, and a male suspect was arrested in connection with the discovery, as well as a report of larceny trick.
