One man has been ar­rest­ed, and firearms along with a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion were seized dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion on Thurs­day night.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, a team of of­fi­cers con­duct­ed mo­bile pa­trols across the Beetham Gar­dens, Laven­tille, Port of Spain, and Bel­mont ar­eas.

At ap­prox­i­mate­ly 10:40 PM on March 6, 2025, while fo­cus­ing on the Sea Lots area, the of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the Pro­duc­tion Dri­ve area.

While trav­el­ing south along the road­way near the fish mar­ket, they ob­served a male sus­pect emerg­ing from a track ad­ja­cent to the fish mar­ket. He looked in the di­rec­tion of the marked po­lice ve­hi­cle, and im­me­di­ate­ly turned and fled through the track from which he had emerged. The of­fi­cers gave chase, but the in­di­vid­ual man­aged to evade cap­ture.

The of­fi­cers con­tin­ued their search of the area and dis­cov­ered a Ruger firearm fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing three rounds of .45 cal­iber am­mu­ni­tion. The firearm was made safe and seized for fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

In ad­di­tion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search at a home on Spring­side Av­enue, East­ern Quar­ry, Laven­tille, in re­la­tion to il­le­gal firearms and am­mu­ni­tion. Dur­ing the search, a black Tau­rus pis­tol con­tain­ing twelve rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion was found tucked with­in a couch set. The weapon was seized, and a male sus­pect was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery, as well as a re­port of lar­ce­ny trick.
