Man, 36, held with AK-47 in San Juan

A 36-year-old San Juan man, who is sus­pect­ed of “stor­ing” weapons for crim­i­nals, was ar­rest­ed af­ter he was found with an AK-47 and am­mu­ni­tion at his home on Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force went to Pe­tit Bourg at 4.30 pm, where they found the as­sault ri­fle in a white plas­tic bag un­der his bed. The weapon had a mag­a­zine which con­tained 29 rounds of 7.62 am­mu­ni­tion. The man was cau­tioned and ar­rest­ed.

The ex­er­cise was led by Snr Supt Ed­wards, Supt Birch, ASP Cal­len­dar and In­sp Ram­s­ingh with su­per­vi­sion from Sgt Mar­tin, Cpls Lavia, and Guy-King.

As of Fri­day af­ter­noon, po­lice of­fi­cers have found and seized 37 guns and 1,053 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion were found and seized since the be­gin­ning of the State of Emer­gency (SoE) on De­cem­ber 30, 2024.

(SoE ac­tiv­i­ties thus far)

(i) 868 op­er­a­tions

(ii) 855 pri­or­i­ty of­fend­ers tar­get­ed

(iii) 4,962 search­es that led to the ar­rest of 659 peo­ple

(iv) 127 kilo­grams of mar­i­jua­na and 607 grams of co­caine seized

(v) 713 traf­fic ex­er­cis­es, which led to 2,055 traf­fic of­fences be­ing de­tect­ed
