A close male rel­a­tive is in po­lice cus­tody in con­nec­tion with the bru­tal chop­ping death of ju­di­cia­ry work­er Sta­cy Gopauls­ingh. 

Po­lice sources said yes­ter­day that the 42-year-old man was ar­rest­ed last Thurs­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are await­ing in­struc­tions from the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions on whether to charge him with mur­der.

Po­lice ini­tial­ly re­ceived a re­port that Gopauls­ingh was killed dur­ing a rob­bery at her Moru­ga home on De­cem­ber 23, 2024. She was three months preg­nant.

Po­lice were told that around 3 am, 36-year-old Gopauls­ingh, her 42-year-old hus­band, Shane Gomez and her three-year-old daugh­ter were asleep at their Poui Trace, St Mary’s Vil­lage, Moru­ga home when 

Gopauls­ingh’s cell phone be­gan to ring. She an­swered the phone and went out­side to the back of the house. Gomez heard three strange voic­es en­gaged in what sound­ed like an ar­gu­ment.

When Gomez got up to in­ves­ti­gate, a masked man con­front­ed him out­side his bed­room while point­ing a gun at him. The fa­ther re­port­ed­ly grabbed his daugh­ter and jumped through a win­dow with her. 

When he re­turned short­ly af­ter, his wife was ly­ing dead in blood on the liv­ing room floor.

It was re­port­ed that the as­sailants stole a lap­top, a brown en­ve­lope con­tain­ing $40,000, US $800 and two wed­ding bands. 

Of­fi­cers from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion III are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
