There has been yet an­oth­er death from COVID-19 record­ed by the Min­istry of Health, and the per­son is yet an­oth­er el­der­ly male with pre-ex­ist­ing health con­di­tions.

In the Min­istry’s up­date for this morn­ing, Thurs­day 10 Sep­tem­ber 2020, it notes that this lat­est death brings the to­tal num­ber of COVID-19 re­lat­ed deaths to 40.

The Min­istry al­so is re­port­ing an­oth­er 75 per­sons test­ing pos­i­tive—three of whom are from To­ba­go—which has pushed up the to­tal num­ber of ac­tive cas­es na­tion­al­ly, to 1,868.

Oth­er high­lights from the Min­istry’s up­date in­clude:

●  Sev­en­ty-five (75) ad­di­tion­al per­sons have test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID -19, the re­sults from sam­ples tak­en dur­ing the pe­ri­od Au­gust 29th to Sep­tem­ber 9th, 2020. There­fore, this fig­ure is NOT rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the pos­i­tive cas­es over the last 24 hours on­ly.

     -  Three (3) of the pos­i­tive cas­es re­port­ed are from To­ba­go

     -  Thir­teen (13) of these re­fer to per­sons who were housed at the Po­lice Train­ing Acad­e­my and have not been in cir­cu­la­tion with­in the na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty. These in­di­vid­u­als will be trans­ferred to a pub­lic health fa­cil­i­ty for rel­e­vant med­ical care.  All es­tab­lished pro­to­cols have been im­ple­ment­ed.

●  Six (6) per­sons have been dis­charged from health fa­cil­i­ties.

●  106 COVID-19 pos­i­tive pa­tients are still in hos­pi­tal

●  117 COVID-19 pos­i­tive pa­tients are in step-down / tran­si­tion fa­cil­i­ties

The Min­istry of Health pro­vides the fol­low­ing clin­i­cal up­date as of the morn­ing of Thurs­day 10th Sep­tem­ber, 2020:

●  Num­ber of sam­ples sub­mit­ted to the Caribbean Pub­lic Health Agency (CARPHA), the UWI and oth­er lo­cal sites for test­ing for COVID-19  =  25,995

●  Num­ber of unique pa­tient tests com­plet­ed  =  22,952

●  Num­ber of re­peat­ed tests  =  3,043

●  Num­ber of sam­ples which have test­ed pos­i­tive at pub­lic and pri­vate fa­cil­i­ties in Trinidad and To­ba­go  =  2,663

●  To­tal num­ber of ac­tive cas­es  =  1,868

●  Num­ber of deaths  =  40

●  Num­ber of per­sons dis­charged  =  755

The Min­istry of Health pro­vides the fol­low­ing up­date: 

●  The Min­istry of Health re­grets to in­form the pub­lic that there is an ad­di­tion­al COVID-19 re­lat­ed death. The per­son is an el­der­ly male with co-mor­bidi­ties. This brings the to­tal num­ber of COVID-19 re­lat­ed deaths to 40.

●  Sev­en­ty-five (75) ad­di­tion­al per­sons have test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID -19.

    −  It should be not­ed that, of the sev­en­ty-five (75) COVID-19 pos­i­tive cas­es re­port­ed, thir­teen (13) of these re­fer to per­sons who were housed at the Po­lice Train­ing Acad­e­my and have not been in cir­cu­la­tion with­in the na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty. One thou­sand five hun­dred and sev­en­ty (1,570) pa­tients have been home iso­lat­ed un­der the con­tin­u­ous mon­i­tor­ing of the re­spec­tive Coun­ty Med­ical Of­fi­cer Health (CMOH) of­fices.

Sev­en­ty - five (75) new pa­tients will be processed for ad­mis­sion at the dis­cre­tion of the CMOHs.

In­ten­sive Care Units (ICUs) are hos­pi­tal wards that pro­vide treat­ment for peo­ple who are very ill. They are staffed with health care pro­fes­sion­als who are trained in ICU treat­ment and the use of so­phis­ti­cat­ed mon­i­tor­ing equip­ment.

High De­pen­den­cy Units (HDUs) are wards for peo­ple who need more ob­ser­va­tion, treat­ment and nurs­ing care than is pos­si­ble in a gen­er­al ward but slight­ly less than that giv­en in an In­ten­sive Care Unit.

An Am­bu­la­to­ry Pa­tient is able to walk about and is not bedrid­den.
