A Princes Town family is in grief after their 29-year-old loved one was stabbed to death by another relative during a row yesterday.
Police said Brian “Woogie” St Paul of Indian Walk, died at the Princes Town Health Facility. His 42-year-old relative has been detained.
The incident occurred after 8 am at Fort George Road, Indian Walk.
Police inquiries revealed that following an argument, St Paul beat the suspect with a cutlass (planassed), following which the relative ran off.
However, St Paul chased after the relative who reportedly picked up a knife and stabbed him three times.
St Paul’s brother, Michael, did not witness the incident, but he claimed he was told a different version of how the incident occurred.
He said he was told that the suspect attacked his brother with a knife and his brother, St Paul, struck him with a cutlass. He claimed the suspect stabbed his brother three times in his chest. He said his brother ran off and the suspect chased after him and struck him with a piece of wood.
Michael admitted that St Paul used to argue a lot and would often issue threats. But he said despite this his brother was as harmless as “a butterfly.”
“My brother, he had his faults, he is a mouther, as I said. My brother is just talk, talk. But to say to harm you, he is not that type of person. He just like to talk and grand charge. He will talk violent talk, but he is not a violent person.”
But Michael said he had a good relationship with the suspect who he described as quiet.
He advised people to walk away from arguments.
“My advice to people is trouble is a thing easy to come but very hard to go. When you have an argument with someone the best thing is just to walk away,” Michael said.
St Paul’s brother Dane was shot dead several years ago.
