Economist and UWI Lecturer Dr Marlene Attzs has denied any affiliation with the United National Congress.
She told Guardian Media she has never been approached to screen nor had she indicated any interest in screening.
When contacted, Dr Attzs said, “This is complete news to me – either a fabrication or someone’s wishful thinking. I’ve never put myself up for screening, except during airport security checks. It’s unfortunate that, with so many serious socio-economic issues at stake, political mischief is taking centre stage. As we approach the elections, the focus should be on critical national matters, not on dragging non-political individuals into crass political games.”
Her denial comes after a Facebook post from the page “UNC Cabal” claimed she had initially accepted an invitation to screen for the Tunapuna seat but later withdrew. The post alleged that Attzs distanced herself from the party after what it described as “race-baiting rhetoric” from UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
