Cops seize four mini-buses in Arima, extortion suspects held

Four mi­ni-bus­es, in­clud­ing two red band maxi taxis be­lieved to have been stolen were seized and two men ar­rest­ed dur­ing a po­lice op­er­a­tion in Ari­ma on Mon­day af­ter­noon. 

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the North­ern and the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sions to­geth­er with the Ma­jor Crimes Unit vis­it­ed a garage on Sama­roo Vil­lage, be­tween 1 pm and 11 pm where they found the ve­hi­cles which ap­peared to be tam­pered with. 

Two men, ages 43 and 46-years-old, who were at the garage at the time were ar­rest­ed. 

The ve­hi­cles were towed to a po­lice sta­tion for fur­ther analy­sis as part of en­quiries. 

While at the scene, po­lice were called away to an un­re­lat­ed in­ci­dent on the East­ern Main Road, Tu­na­puna, where they found two men who were want­ed by the An­ti-Ex­tor­tion Unit. 

Of­fi­cers con­front­ed the men and searched them when they found a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na over the pre­scribed amount on one of the sus­pects. 

One of the sus­pects tried to pull away from the of­fi­cers, but was even­tu­al­ly sub­dued and ar­rest­ed.
