under investigation for allegedly beating his 11-year-old son and then inserting his service-issued pistol into the youngster’s mouth because the boy stayed up late and did not take a bath when he was ordered to.
The alleged abuse by the officer, who lives in an HDC housing scheme, was highlighted after his son took pictures of the bruises on his body and posted them in a WhatsApp group shared by other students.
In addition to posting the pictures of his bruises, police said the student told his classmates his father allegedly threatened to kill him.
As the post was circulated among the students in the group, police said the boy’s mother became aware of what had happened and rushed to the father’s apartment, where she took the boy and went to the hospital.
Police reports indicate the boy lives with his father in close proximity to his mother’s residence.
The police were notified of the incident at 12.35 pm on Tuesday by a senior member of the school’s Parent Teacher Association, who learnt of it from the boy’s mother.
Police said the matter was also reported to the police, and a request for an Administration of Justice Indictable Proceedings Act assessment was made.
Meanwhile, arrangements were also made for the victim to be interviewed by officers of the Special Victims Department at the St Clair Police Station tomorrow.
Contacted on the matter yesterday, acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin acknowledged that serious allegations had been levelled against the officer and assured a thorough investigation will be carried out into the alleged incident. — A Paul
