Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed con­tin­ues to man­age cleanup op­er­a­tions fol­low­ing an oil spill at Ves­signy Vil­lage, La Brea on Feb­ru­ary 25.

The fumes from the oil spill in a riv­er near the Ves­signy beach forced the ear­ly dis­missal of the Ves­signy Sec­ondary School and the clo­sure of the beach fa­cil­i­ties on Tues­day.

Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, life­guards were asked to va­cate the area, while res­i­dents were left com­plain­ing about where they would go to avoid the strong smells.

Her­itage's emer­gency re­sponse team and oth­er cru­cial re­sources re­main ac­tive­ly en­gaged in on­go­ing cleanup op­er­a­tions.

In a re­lease, the com­pa­ny said "the af­fect­ed sec­tion of the six-inch pipeline was prompt­ly re­paired as soon as the leak was lo­cat­ed."

They al­so added that in­de­pen­dent air qual­i­ty tests in the af­fect­ed area were on­go­ing and read­ings re­main at a nor­mal lev­el.

Her­itage stat­ed that they were work­ing with the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries, the En­vi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment Au­thor­i­ty, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties, and com­mu­ni­ty stake­hold­ers to mit­i­gate the im­pact of the spill and re­store the af­fect­ed area.
