Heritage Petroleum Company Limited continues to manage cleanup operations following an oil spill at Vessigny Village, La Brea on February 25.
The fumes from the oil spill in a river near the Vessigny beach forced the early dismissal of the Vessigny Secondary School and the closure of the beach facilities on Tuesday.
Following the incident, lifeguards were asked to vacate the area, while residents were left complaining about where they would go to avoid the strong smells.
Heritage's emergency response team and other crucial resources remain actively engaged in ongoing cleanup operations.
In a release, the company said "the affected section of the six-inch pipeline was promptly repaired as soon as the leak was located."
They also added that independent air quality tests in the affected area were ongoing and readings remain at a normal level.
Heritage stated that they were working with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, the Environmental Management Authority, local authorities, and community stakeholders to mitigate the impact of the spill and restore the affected area.
