A 73-year-old man died in­stant­ly af­ter be­ing struck by a ve­hi­cle on Va­len­cia Road on Sat­ur­day night.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as Frank Ather­ton of Swan Quar­ry Ex­ten­sion, Va­len­cia.

Around 9:45 p.m., the dri­ver told po­lice she sud­den­ly saw what ap­peared to be a per­son in front of her ve­hi­cle. De­spite brak­ing, she col­lid­ed with Ather­ton, shat­ter­ing her wind­screen and dam­ag­ing the bon­net. She ex­it­ed the ve­hi­cle and found him mo­tion­less on the road.
