UTT cops Championship, Premiership kayo titles

The Uni­ver­si­ty of T&T (UTT) won the Cham­pi­onship and Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion­al Knock­out ti­tles when the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball league con­tin­ued East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na Or­ange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Thurs­day night.

In the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion, UTT, led by a dom­i­nant per­for­mance from Shaniya Mor­gan, who buried 59 goals from 73 at­tempts, crushed Unit Trust Cor­po­ra­tion 85-25 in a lop­sided en­counter.

Kali­fa Mc Collin-Lopez added 26 goals from 33 at­tempts, who led 25-7, 43-13 and 66-18 at the end of the first three quar­ters, while UTC had a team-high eight goals from 15 at­tempts from Lil­i­ah Matthews, with Gen­e­sis Clif­ford adding sev­en from 11, Roan­na Dal­rym­ple six from sev­en, and Crys­tal Noel Cock­burn four from nine at­tempts in the loss.

In the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion de­cider, UTT had a much tougher bat­tle on their hands as they need­ed the five-minute ex­tra-time pe­ri­od to get past MIC 48-45 af­ter the match end­ed 38-all at the end of the four quar­ters.

For cham­pi­ons UTT, Jelis­sa Goodridge was the main con­trib­u­tor with 34 goals from 44 at­tempts, while Aquila Blugh chipped in with 13 from 23, and Da­cia Ben­jamin had one of two at­tempts with MIC’s 45 goals com­ing from Tiffany Gon­za­les, who sank 28 of 37 at­tempts, and Er­i­ca Job with 17 from 32.

In the day’s open­ing match, De­fence Force bat­tled past Fire Youth 23-17 in the Al­ter­nate Di­vi­sion fi­nal in­spired by Maria La Fou­cade’s 17 goals from 19 at­tempts.
