Defence Force dropped their first points of the season in Group Two of the T&T Premier Football League Tier II after battling to a 1-1 draw at T&T Defence Force Reserves Ground, Macqueripe, on Sunday (March 23) night.

Going into the match, the Army/Coast Guard combination had won seven matches on the trot from as many outings and were favoured to add to their tally.

However, visitors Union Hall were out to play spoilers and stunned the home crowd when Kyron Williams fired in the go-ahead item as early as the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead, but that joy was short-lived as Josiah Superville equalised for Defence Force in the 20th minute as both teams went into the half-time interval level.

In the second half, both Defence Force and Union Hall tried for the decisive strike to secure all three points, but in the end the match ended in an entertaining draw, with the visitors having the honour of ending the host’s 100 per cent winning record.

Despite the drawn result, Defence Force remained top of Group Two with 22 points from eight matches, six more than Central Soccer World, who edged third-placed Guaya United 2-1 on Saturday.

In Sunday’s other match at St Anthony’s College Ground, in Westmoorings, host Petit Valley/Diego Martin United picked up their first win of the campaign, 2-0 over Evolution FC, with a goal each from Jaeden Bobb in the eighth minute and former national youth player Micah Lewis in the 79th.

On Saturday in Group II, Central Soccer World got a decisive item from Andre Nicholas in the 78th minute, a penalty kick to edge host Guaya United 2-1 at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground.

Ephraim Brown fired the visitors ahead in the 29th minute, but four minutes before the half-time interval, Keston Frontin drew Guaya United level, only for Nicholas to convert the second-half penalty to secure all three points for his team while Matura ReUnited and San Fernando Giants were locked at 1-1 midway into the second half when the match was brought to a halt after a fracas ensued between both teams, followed by supporters involvement.

In Group I, at the Ken Cooke Ground, St James Police Barracks, Long Circular Road, Police FC II got goals from four different players to whip table leaders Malabar Young Stars 4-1.

The quartet of Akeil Thomas, Jaleel Perry, Sylvan Selvon, and Clint Hospedales were all on target for the Lawmen, who climbed to 13 points from five matches, the same as neighbours Queen’s Park Cricket Club in the third and fourth spots, respectively, on the standings, while Malabar Young Stars stayed on 16 points at the top from seven matches, with the University of T&T Patriots second with 14 points.

Elsewhere, UTT got a lone goal from Malachi Hazel in the 91st minute to defeat reigning champion Harlem Strikers 1-0 at Ancil Elcock Ground, Caroni, while Joshua Mason, Sean De Silva and Josimar Belgrave got a goal each for Queen’s Park Cricket Club in a 3-0 win over Bethel United at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
