Lee-Anne Thornton remained on course to secure the triple crown in this year’s Sunshine Snacks Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament when she booked a spot in the Women’s Open Singles semifinal at the club’s courts on Victoria Avenue, Port-of-Spain, on Monday.
The winner of the Mixed Doubles title with her husband, Andrew Thornton, over Nirav Dougdeen and Madison Khan, 6-3, 7-5, on Sunday, and the Women’s Doubles crown with Cameron Wong after beating Farah Chautilal and Catherine Campbell-Frost 6-1, 6-4, on Thursday, Thornton made light work of Savitree Singh, 6-0, 6-1, in their Singles quarterfinal.
Next up for Thornton is a semifinal against third-ranked unseeded Khan, who defeated third seed Chautilal 6-3, 6-2, while the other semifinal will feature fourth-ranked Campbell-Frost and second-ranked Wong after their wins over Karissa Mohammed 6-1, 6-1, and Cyra Ramcharan 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, respectively.
This, after Karissa Mohammed/Campbell-Frost beat Karissa Mohammed/Campbell-Frost in their quarterfinal, while Wong crushed Cyra Ramcharan.
In the lone remaining men’s singles last-16 match-up, top-ranked Andrew Thornton whipped Oliver Harragin 6-1, 6-0 to book a quarterfinal versus eighth-ranked Dunstan Denoon Tuesday from 3.30 pm.
In the other quarterfinals today, fourth-ranked Zachery Byng faces his men’s doubles winning partner and sixth-ranked Keshan Moonasar; Ethan Ammon meets third-ranked Vaughn Wilson; and seventh-ranked Seve Day comes up against second-ranked Kale Dalla Costa.
