Preysal Sports Club rode a tide of power hitting to a thrilling 21-run victory over Fial Under-19 in a high-scoring contest at Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port of Spain, during the Trinidad T20 Festival Saturday (May 9).
Electing to bat, Preysal were steadied early by opener Nick Ramlal, who compiled a fluent 48 off 42 balls with five crisp fours. Justin Jagessar provided useful support early on, striking two sixes in a measured 25. But the innings ignited when Sachin Seecharan and Vishan Jagessar accelerated through the middle overs. Seecharan smashed a rapid 33 off 20, while Vishan produced the innings’ defining cameo—a blistering 48 from just 22 deliveries peppered with towering sixes. His late-order partnership with Guyanese batsman Akshaya Persaud (unbeaten on 25 off 12) pushed Preysal to a daunting 186 for 4 in 20 overs.
Chasing 187, Fial U-19 stumbled out of the blocks as Zackariyya Mohammed fell for a duck, but Levi Ghanny kept the chase alive with a fighting 71. Ghanny received support from skipper Brendan Boodoo (36) and Kaiden Pollard (32 not out), and for long periods it looked as though the young side might overhaul the target. Yet the required rate steadily crept upward and key breakthroughs proved decisive.
Preysal’s bowling unit held its nerve when it mattered most. Vishan Jagessar and Ramlal led the attack with timely wickets that disrupted promising stands, while the remainder of the bowling attack closed out the innings under mounting pressure. Despite spirited resistance, Fial U-19 finished on 165 for 3, falling 21 runs short.
Vishan Jagessar’s brutal middle-overs assault earned him the “Man of the Match” award as Preysal celebrated a spirited, hard-fought win.
On Friday, Bess Motors Marchin Patriots edged Powergen Penal Sports Club in a thrilling clash at Queen’s Park Oval, winning by two wickets with two balls to spare.
Powergen won the toss and decided to bat, posting a competitive 177 for 5. Captain Akeil Cooper anchored the innings with an unbeaten 57 off 40 balls, while Jeremy Solozano and Daniel Williams provided substantial support with 45 off 35 and a blistering 47 off 23, respectively. Tight death bowling from Teshawn Castro (2-42) and Ricky Jaipaul (1-22) ensured Powergen fell just short of the 180 mark.
Chasing 178, Marchin Patriots raced out of the blocks courtesy of Kamil Pooran’s explosive 42 from 22 balls, which included four sixes. But the chase was punctuated by regular wickets, and the contest swung on a series of crucial middle-over strikes. Kirstan Kallicharan steadied the Patriots with a measured 43 off 30, while Raymon Reifer contributed a quick 23 off 16 to keep his side in touch.
The late stages delivered high drama. Powergen’s bowlers, led by Justin Jagessar (2-30) and Ashmead Nedd (2-34), struck decisive blows to reduce the Patriots to eight down with 15 needed from the final two overs. Enter Rivaldo Ramlogan. With nerve and authority, the lower-order left-hander smashed an unbeaten 40 off 23 balls, including two big sixes, to steer Marchin home with two deliveries remaining.
Ramlogan’s calm finish earned him the “Man of the Match” award and capped a superb team effort from the Patriots.
