ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Bodybuilder Kimberly Percival and West Indies cricketer Alzarri Joseph took home the top two awards when the National Sports Awards took place at the Royalton Resort here over the weekend.
Ambassador Percival, an IFBB Pro Bikini Fitness athlete, was named Sportswoman of the Year for a historic third consecutive time and fifth overall, while fast bowler Joseph won his first ever Sportsman of the Year title.
Percival, who was not present at the ceremony, became the first athlete to win the award for three consecutive years, and the first to win five National Sports Awards in any category.
Meanwhile, it was sweet revenge for the 28-year-old Joseph, who lost out to kiteboarder Tiger Tyson last year for the title.
Predictively, the Junior Sportsman of the Year award went to 18-year-old rising cricket star, Jewel Andrew while the Junior Sportswoman of the Year award was won by track & field’s newest sensation, Tyra Fenton.
Percival and Joseph took home EC$20, 000 while the juniors both received US$20,000 towards tuition fees to any regional or international learning institution.
