KINGSTON, Ja­maica – The Ja­maica Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion (JFF) is set to re­ceive a ma­jor fi­nan­cial boost fol­low­ing a de­ci­sion by FI­FA to of­fi­cial­ly re­move its re­stric­tions on the is­land’s gov­ern­ing body.

Back in 2020, the re­stric­tions were im­posed as FI­FA over­saw re­forms to the JFF’s gov­er­nance and fi­nan­cial struc­tures.

Un­der these con­straints, the JFF re­ceived lim­it­ed fund­ing, with dis­burse­ments made in small­er in­cre­ments.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the re­stric­tions were lift­ed on Mon­day by FI­FA, paving the way for the JFF to ac­cess ad­di­tion­al fund­ing from the glob­al foot­ball body.

The JFF cur­rent­ly re­ceives US$1 mil­lion (ap­prox­i­mate­ly J$156.3 mil­lion) an­nu­al­ly, along with ad­di­tion­al project fund­ing from FI­FA, but is now set to gain greater eco­nom­ic sup­port from the or­gan­i­sa­tion af­ter ad­dress­ing and im­prov­ing sev­er­al gov­er­nance is­sues, which led to the re­stric­tions be­ing en­forced.

When con­tact­ed on Tues­day, JFF Gen­er­al Sec­re­tary Den­nis Chung de­clined to com­ment on the mat­ter.

How­ev­er, the JFF has sched­uled a vir­tu­al press con­fer­ence for Wednes­day, where Chung is ex­pect­ed to ad­dress the is­sue and con­firm the de­vel­op­ment.

Back in Jan­u­ary, Chung in­di­cat­ed that he was con­fi­dent that the JFF would sat­is­fy FI­FA’s re­quire­ments, lead­ing to the eas­ing of re­stric­tions, while un­der­lin­ing the im­por­tance of ac­cess­ing the ad­di­tion­al fund­ing.
