Presentation College San Fernando, led by the outstanding performance from Levi Ghanny, secured their place in the final of the Secondary Schools Cricket Intercol tournament following a commanding 72-run win against Vishnu Boys Hindu College.
The thrilling encounter took place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando on Thursday evening, with Presentation College (Pres Sando) inching closer to completing a remarkable double—having already claimed the league title and eyeing their third Intercol crown in four years.
Opting to bat first, Presentation College got off to a shaky start, losing opener Riyaad Mohammed in the second over for six runs. However, this setback opened the door for what can only be described as a pivotal partnership between Ghanny and Shaan Ramtahal. The pair steadied the innings. The duo put together a valuable 57-run stand for the second wicket. Ramtahal showcased his flair with three successive fours off the pace of national Under-17 bowler Daniel Holder, while Ghanny responded emphatically with back-to-back sixes in the following over bowled by Ashmir Jumadeen, setting the tone for a confident Prez innings.
Presentation’s momentum received a brief interruption when Christian Lall, who had swapped wicketkeeping gloves for the ball, dismissed Ramtahal for 27, breaking the partnership. Entering the fray, captain Brendan Boodoo made an immediate impact with a quickfire 24 off just 19 balls. Boodoo and Ghanny together added another 45 runs, helping Prez pass the 100-run mark.
The innings hit a stumbling block as Holder struck twice in quick succession to remove both Boodoo and K’Hill Thomas, reducing Presentation to 109 for 4. However, Ghanny remained unfazed, forming a crucial 54-run alliance with Ethan Ramcharan, who contributed a solid 24 runs. Together, they built a platform for a competitive total.
Ghanny eventually fell for an impressive 75, applauded for his composed and well-played innings. Presentation College San Fernando finished their innings strongly, posting 186 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs.
Vishnu Boys Hindu College’s run chase was anchored by Lall and Tariq Richards, who came together early after their team was struggling at 22 for 2 in the fifth over. The pair compiled a resilient 66-run partnership, with Lall scoring 36 and Richards adding 28. However, their hopes took a hit when the two departed just two balls apart, leading to Vishnu Boys tumbling to 89 for 4.
From there, Presentation’s bowling attack tightened considerably. Reeyad Persad emerged as the star bowler, claiming impressive figures of 4 for 17. Vishnu Boys crumbled further under pressure, losing 7 wickets for just 98 runs.
In the end, Vishnu Boys were bowled out for a modest 114 in just 17 and a half overs, handing Presentation College San Fernando a comprehensive 72-run victory.
With this resounding win, Presentation College advances to next week’s final, where they will face either Presentation College Chaguanas or Naparima College.
