Led by T&T in­ter­na­tion­al Kevin Moli­no and Ker­ron “Ball Pest” Cum­mings, East Mu­cu­rapo Sec­ondary School was the lone school to re­peat as age-group cham­pi­ons when the In­ter­col Foot­ball Nos­tal­gia Fes­ti­val or­gan­ised by the Nos­tal­gia Fes­ti­val Com­mit­tee took place at St Mary’s Col­lege Ground, Ser­pen­tine Road, St Clair, on March 8.

Com­pet­ing in a five-team round-robin se­ries, East Mu­cu­rapo Sec­ondary reg­is­tered wins over Fa­ti­ma Col­lege ‘B’ (3-0), Fa­ti­ma Col­lege ‘A’ (2-1), St An­tho­ny’s Col­lege (3-0), and St Bene­dict’s Col­lege (2-1) for a per­fect record of four wins from as many match­es and a max­i­mum of 12 points, six clear of Fa­ti­ma Col­lege ‘B’ and St Bene­dict’s Col­lege.

In the Over-40 Di­vi­sion, the San Juan North Sec­ondary line-up, in­clu­sive of for­mer T&T stand­out Mar­vin Oliv­er, Curt Dan­clair, and Mervyn Brooks, dom­i­nat­ed their ri­vals to se­cure the ti­tle in the sev­en-team round-robin se­ries with five wins from their six match­es to amass 15 points, just a mere point ahead of East Mu­cu­rapo Sec­ondary, while Tran­quil­li­ty Sec­ondary, with for­mer T&T and West In­dies crick­eter Dwayne Bra­vo among its play­ers, end­ed in the third spot with 14 points.

The Over-50 Di­vi­sion was the most com­pet­i­tive of the lot, with ten teams di­vid­ed in­to two groups of five, at the end of which St An­tho­ny’s Col­lege, win­ners of Group B, edged Group A win­ners Na­pari­ma Col­lege 2-0 in the de­cider, cour­tesy of a strike from for­mer T&T youth in­ter­na­tion­al Joel Gib­bons and Ronald "Hus­tler" Daniel.

In the round-robin stage, St An­tho­ny’s Col­lege won by a sim­i­lar 3-0 mar­gin against San Juan North Sec­ondary, St Mary’s Col­lege and Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege of San Fer­nan­do, while they drew 1-1 with St Au­gus­tine Sec­ondary in their oth­er match to top Group B with ten points, one more than San Juan North, while Na­pari­ma Col­lege topped Group A on goal dif­fer­ence from East Mu­cu­rapo Sec­ondary, John Don­ald­son Tech­ni­cal In­sti­tute, Bel­mont Sec­ondary and Fa­ti­ma Col­lege af­ter all five teams end­ed with a stun­ning six points each.

How­ev­er, in the over-60 age group, there was no stop­ping John Don­ald­son Tech­ni­cal In­sti­tute with the likes of Garfield De Sil­va, Kurt Liv­er­pool, Ran­dall Gib­bons, Richad Le Gall, Bar­ton Rus­sell, Alan An­der­son and Sam May­nard, as they edged out Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege of San Fer­nan­do to the ti­tle with 16 points from their six match­es, to their ri­vals 14 points, with Tran­quil­li­ty Gov­ern­ment Sec­ondary third with 13.

This af­ter John D Tech­ni­cal In­sti­tute de­feat­ed Bel­mont Sec­ondary (2-0), St Mary’s Col­lege (9-0), Na­pari­ma Col­lege (1-0), Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege of San Fer­nan­do (1-0), and St Au­gus­tine Sec­ondary (3-0) and drew goal­less with Tran­quil­li­ty Gov­ern­ment Sec­ondary.

The day’s ac­tiv­i­ties al­so in­clud­ed the In­ter­col Nos­tal­gia Fes­ti­val Com­mit­tee pre­sent­ing ap­pre­ci­a­tion plaques to Kelvin “Pa” Ale­ong, de­ceased; Sed­ley Joseph; Ken­neth Fran­co; and Glen Davis.

Both Ale­ong and Joseph, St Mary’s Col­lege Hall of Fame in­ductees in 1999 and 2008, re­spec­tive­ly, were ho­n­oured for their ster­ling con­tri­bu­tions to crick­et and foot­ball in T&T, while for­mer Bel­mont Sec­ondary (In­ter­me­di­ate) alum­ni Fran­cos and Davis were ho­n­oured for their ster­ling con­tri­bu­tions and in­deli­ble roles in foot­ball and cy­cling, re­spec­tive­ly.
