The Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) can­di­date for Cu­mu­to/Man­zanil­la has asked the com­mu­ni­ty to give him a chance.

Ac­knowl­edg­ing con­cerns that he is not from the area, Dr Rai Rag­bir says he is aware of the prob­lems plagu­ing the rur­al com­mu­ni­ties.

“I would love to meet all of them to show what I can do for the com­mu­ni­ty,” he told Guardian Me­dia. “As I tell all my peo­ple that I touch dur­ing my walk, I of­fer my­self as their rep­re­sen­ta­tive.”

Sev­er­al con­stituents were dis­ap­point­ed over Rag­bir’s can­di­da­cy, ac­cus­ing the UNC of hand­pick­ing him over in­cum­bent Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment, Chris­tine Newal­lo-Ho­sein.

Newal­lo-Ho­sein was hop­ing to serve a sec­ond term.

While com­mend­ing her for the work she has done thus far, Dr Rag­bir says it is time to move to an­oth­er lev­el.
