As Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Fed­er­a­tive Re­pub­lic of Brazil com­mem­o­rate 60 years of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions, Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs Dr Amery Browne wel­comed Brazil's Ex­ter­nal Re­la­tions Min­is­ter Mau­ro Vieira for a flag rais­ing cer­e­mo­ny at the Min­istry.

Ac­cord­ing to Dr Browne, Brazil and T&T share sim­i­lar in­ter­ests and prin­ci­ples.

“In par­tic­u­lar, a fo­cus on peace and de­vel­op­ment.  A fo­cus on South-South col­lab­o­ra­tion.  A fo­cus on en­sur­ing that the Caribbean Sea re­mains—and is main­tained as—a ‘zone of peace’. A fo­cus on health care for all our peo­ple,” Dr Browne said.

Both min­is­ters signed a Let­ter of In­tent, which in­cludes a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing on a po­lit­i­cal and air trans­port agree­ment.

The For­eign Min­is­ter not­ed the in­ten­tion to strength­en and deep­en the ex­ist­ing friend­ship be­tween both coun­tries.

“Some of those in­clude the field of Sport.  We all know that Brazil is a gi­ant in the sport­ing are­na,” the min­is­ter not­ed. 

“It al­so in­cludes col­lab­o­ra­tion in Cul­ture.  We’ve al­so dis­cussed the po­ten­tial for tourism link­ages be­tween Brazil and Trinidad and To­ba­go,” he added.

Dr Browne says Brazil has been a valu­able friend to this coun­try, par­tic­u­lar­ly in the health care are­na.
