Op­po­si­tion Leader Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has ques­tioned whether the on­go­ing State of Emer­gency (SoE) which was called ex­act­ly a month ago was to im­ple­ment a gun amnesty "to save oth­er gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials who are al­so un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion?"

Her state­ment came af­ter it emerged Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Er­la Hare­wood-Christo­pher is re­port­ed­ly be­ing ques­tioned by in­ves­ti­ga­tors at her of­fice at the Po­lice Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing in Port-of-Spain.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors ar­rived at the build­ing around 10 a.m. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is be­lieved to be re­lat­ed to the im­por­ta­tion of two sniper ri­fles for the Strate­gic Ser­vices Agency, sources tell Guardian Me­dia.

In a state­ment to Guardian Me­dia, Per­sad-Bisses­sar said, "This is no sur­prise to my­self or any­one that looked at my speech dur­ing the UNC MNF on Jan­u­ary 6th. Cit­i­zens should ask if the re­al rea­son for the SoE was to im­ple­ment a gun amnesty to save oth­er gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials who are al­so un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion which back­fired be­cause their dunce AG did not know that he would have had to come to par­lia­ment for a spe­cial ma­jor­i­ty to im­ple­ment it."

She added, "The gov­ern­ment has col­lapsed. They must call an elec­tion. We will meet them on the “anenue”."
