A Tobago man is fighting for his life at the Scarborough General Hospital, suffering from first-degree burns, after being found on fire on Tuesday. Because of his critical condition, police said he was unable to tell them who or what set him ablaze.
Around 5.20 am, 41-year-old Deshawn Melville, who is from Mason Hall, was seen on fire near Third Street, Kilgwyn Bay Road, Bon Accord. Witnesses said he was jumping around, trying to put out the flames. He was rushed to the hospital in severe pain with life-threatening burns and remains in critical condition.
A short video on social media shows Melville lying on a step groaning in agony as two people attempt to calm him while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. His upper and lower body was burnt and, in some parts, there was peeling and bruising.
The police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
