Taxi driver David Wilkinson will have to wait another three years before he can earn an income plying his car.

The 32-year-old man also faced a $6,000 fine by Magistrate Armina Mohammed-Deonarinesingh after he pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and driving without a valid certificate of insurance.

Wilkinson was driving along Knox Street in San Fernando on Tuesday when PC Sujeect Ramcharan of the Southern Division Road Enforcement Task Force stopped him during a road traffic operation.

When the officer asked for his driving documents, Wilson presented his taxi badge and a certificate of insurance.

Wilkinson claimed he had forgotten his wallet at home. The officer searched the licensing database which showed he was disqualified from driving.

He was arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station where he was charged.

Magistrate Mohammed-Deonarinesingh fined him $1,000 for driving whilst disqualified and $5,000 for driving without a valid certificate of insurance.

He was ordered to pay $1,000 immediately and given 90 days to pay the balance. If he fails to pay the money, he will serve three months in jail.  -Otto Carrington
