Six suspects were arrested and three firearms seized by officers in the North Eastern, Central and Port-of-Spain Divisions, yesterday into this morning.
Officers of the Morvant Criminal Investigations Department (CID), North Eastern Division Task Force, NED Gang and Intelligence Unit and personnel of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, responded to a report of shooting in the Malick district between 7:30 pm and 11:30 pm, on January 5.
At the location, officers observed an abandoned black Suzuki Swift.
They discovered one Glock pistol loaded with a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition and one spent shell in the vehicle.
The vehicle was later found to be bearing false registration plates and had been reported stolen from the Central Division in December 2024.
In the Central Division, Area South, Task Force officers conducted an exercise in the Couva and Freeport districts yesterday afternoon. Officers stopped a gold-coloured Nissan Tiida at Siewdass Road, Freeport.
They discovered one pistol loaded with a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition.
The three occupants of the vehicle, two men, ages 20 and 33, and one woman, aged 27, were arrested in connection with the find.
In the Port-of-Spain Division, an Operation BLAST exercise in the Sea Lots district, early this morning, led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of one pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, ‘Tactical Support’, Collis Hazel, commenting on the find said, “The criminal elements may be praying to not be brought to justice, but our prayers are stronger and we are backing it up with strong, determined police work. They would do well to remember, that no weapon formed against the TTPS and the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, shall prosper.”
