Two days after the body of a missing Couva man was found in the Caroni River, another gruesome discovery has been made.
Police said the decomposing body, believed to be that of a woman, was found around 7 am yesterday by members of the Hunters Search and Rescue team, led by Vallence Rambharat.
The group was called in after police officers received information on Wednesday evening that another body was spotted in the river.
The unidentified woman’s body was discovered approximately two kilometres west of the Caroni Bridge, along the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway.
Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the two discoveries, made just days apart, are connected.
Rambharat said that similar to Tuesday’s discovery, the woman’s body had become trapped under debris and branches in the river.
Police identified the man found on Tuesday in the river as Damian Nurse, who had been missing for almost a month.
In December last year, the body of Shiva Lochan, who had also been missing, was found floating in the Caroni River. An autopsy revealed he was shot in the head.
