A reunion between activist Alyssa Phillip and her friend Kaia Sealy has captured the hearts of thousands of people on social media, with a Facebook post showing the pair embracing receiving more than 9,000 reactions.
Photos shared online show an emotional moment as the two reunited, smiling and hugging tightly. It’s the first picture of the two since the January 20 police-involved shooting, which left Sealy’s partner Joshua Samaroo dead and her seriously injured.
Sealy was charged with several offences including manslaughter, shooting with intent and possession of arms and ammunition. She has since been placed on bail and returned to the US for treatment.
Alongside the images, Phillip, who began the protests in support of Sealy and Samaroo, shared a heartfelt message to Kaia, writing: “God’s not done with you my sweet girl.”
By Saturday evening, the post had garnered more than 9,000 reactions and continued to attract hundreds of comments and shares from people moved by the reunion.
Phillip was arrested in May and again on Labour Day for protesting.
