A re­union be­tween ac­tivist Alyssa Phillip and her friend Ka­ia Sealy has cap­tured the hearts of thou­sands of peo­ple on so­cial me­dia, with a Face­book post show­ing the pair em­brac­ing re­ceiv­ing more than 9,000 re­ac­tions.

Pho­tos shared on­line show an emo­tion­al mo­ment as the two re­unit­ed, smil­ing and hug­ging tight­ly. It’s the first pic­ture of the two since the Jan­u­ary 20 po­lice-in­volved shoot­ing, which left Sealy’s part­ner Joshua Sama­roo dead and her se­ri­ous­ly in­jured.

Sealy was charged with sev­er­al of­fences in­clud­ing manslaugh­ter, shoot­ing with in­tent and pos­ses­sion of arms and am­mu­ni­tion. She has since been placed on bail and re­turned to the US for treat­ment.

Along­side the im­ages, Phillip, who be­gan the protests in sup­port of Sealy and Sama­roo, shared a heart­felt mes­sage to Ka­ia, writ­ing: “God’s not done with you my sweet girl.”

By Sat­ur­day evening, the post had gar­nered more than 9,000 re­ac­tions and con­tin­ued to at­tract hun­dreds of com­ments and shares from peo­ple moved by the re­union.

Phillip was ar­rest­ed in May and again on Labour Day for protest­ing.
