On the eve of Nom­i­na­tion Day, the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress changed its mind and opt­ed for Rishi Tri­pathi in­stead of pre­vi­ous­ly an­nounced Ravi Rati­ram, to con­test the Cou­va North seat in the Gen­er­al Elec­tion.

The con­fir­ma­tion to Guardian Me­dia came from a se­nior mem­ber of the UNC this morn­ing, how­ev­er, it was not dis­closed why the change was made.

Tri­pathi is an At­tor­ney-at-law and had a short stint in the Sen­ate ear­li­er this year on the Op­po­si­tion bench.

When it was re­vealed that in­cum­bent Ra­mona Ram­di­al did not get the nod, there were some protests from some con­stituents call­ing on the par­ty to re­think its de­ci­sion.
