On the eve of Nomination Day, the United National Congress changed its mind and opted for Rishi Tripathi instead of previously announced Ravi Ratiram, to contest the Couva North seat in the General Election.
The confirmation to Guardian Media came from a senior member of the UNC this morning, however, it was not disclosed why the change was made.
Tripathi is an Attorney-at-law and had a short stint in the Senate earlier this year on the Opposition bench.
When it was revealed that incumbent Ramona Ramdial did not get the nod, there were some protests from some constituents calling on the party to rethink its decision.
