Homicide officers, along with personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), were called to Tyrico Beach at Maracas Bay yesterday morning, after a body was discovered in some bushes.
The gruesome find occurred shortly after 8 am, when a female beachgoer had gone to the bushes near the access road to relieve herself. She reportedly ran out screaming after seeing the corpse of an East Indian man lying face down.
Police arrived to find the unidentified victim bound and gagged.
Despite the ongoing investigation, beach visitors continued to arrive, setting up tents and chairs seemingly unaware of the scene unfolding nearby.
On social media, Ann Marie Moore posted, “This place is full of evil people. Here nah, this Sunday morning going so good l loving the vibes. And then up comes the devil and his minions and sour the vibes. Lord have mercy.”
Others questioned the effectiveness of the current State of Emergency (SoE).
Chrystal Morton commented: “This is so sad, as someone who lives just a minute from the beach, I have been saying for years at night there is always very loud music playing on that beach if someone is to be bawling for help no one can hear them. Years ago, I had a neighbour whose girlfriend was killed and she was left for dead because everyone believed it was people on the beach making noise. This is just sad.”
As beachgoers settled to enjoy the sun, sand and sea at Tyrico Beach, tragedy struck again.
Just before 4 pm, an unidentified man was said to have encountered difficulties while bathing and drowned.
The incident, which was captured in a two-minute recording and posted online, showed other sea-bathers pulling the man’s body from the water whilst a woman was heard screaming.
